Communication is adapted from various published resources but mostly from a work produced and distributed under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY-NC-SA) by a publisher who has requested that they and the original author not receive attribution. Some chapters have remained similar to the original text, while others have been altered greatly in order to work with the Introduction to Communication Course at NorQuest College. This adaptation has reformatted the original text as needed, added content from other resources, included original writing, replaced images and figures, and added review activities to make the resulting whole more shareable. This work is made available under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) licence.

What happens when a class shares their collective knowledge about their subject, rather than hiding it away and stuffing it down in individual memory?
A textbook that is formed by the meeting of the minds!

As part of the ART 305 19th Century European Art History move to online during the pandemic, a collective project was born: creating a digital open-education resource, free to any who choose to access it, and a way for the individuals in class to be part of a greater community in an online learning environment.

With some chapters authored by the instructor of the class and others created by the students as a result of their term’s research, this text is a growing document that will encompass past, present, and future learners as their collective body of knowledge grows.

Within the parameters of 19th Century European Art History this text begins with the influence and beginnings of change during the Rococo era in France and progresses through time until the beginning of the 20th century. Each chapter marks a specific era or a specific artist and chapters are individually authored.

Developed as a textbook for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, JR Shaw School of Business human resources management course HRMT 4130 Workplace Investigations. This book will walk the student or human resources professional through the steps and considerations of conducting an internal workplace investigation.

This edited, openly licensed, textbook examines several different issues in collection management. Topics covered include physical vs. digital collections; the impact of BookTok on collections; challenges to 2SLGBTQ+ collections ; ebook licensing; ebook pricing; accessible collections for users with physical disabilities; accessible collections for users with invisible disabilities; “just in time”/demand-driven acquisitions; climate change and collections and research data collections.

The second edition of the book includes six new chapters focusing on: consortial collections, diversity in the health library collections, prison library collections, oral histories in archives, digital game collections in academic libraries, and zine collections in public and academic libraries.

This open textbook supports the learning outcomes of SAIT's COMN200 curriculum as they relate to communications for academic and professional purposes for early childhood educators.

There are two primary objectives in having developed the Transcultural Communications Workshop and the accompanying Facilitator Guide.

From the perspective of participants, Diversity and inclusion are keys to working successfully with others in groups, teams, classrooms, and workplaces. By developing their transcultural communication skills, participants learn more about themselves and understand how to better interact with others across their community. Completion of the workshop enhances the participants’ ability to have more inclusive communications across diverse populations.

For the facilitators, their role is to encourage all participants to contribute to the discussion, and to remind them that this is a no-fault environment. Facilitators also build and maintain an atmosphere where all participants feel comfortable speaking honestly and where differences of opinion are respected.

Utilizing the Facilitator Guide, aids facilitators in developing additional transcultural communications workshop facilitation skill and, in utilizing research proven Open Educational Resources, designed to strengthen participants’ transcultural communication skills. This will ensure that facilitators deliver inter-active workshops that support more inclusive participant communications across diverse populations.

The OER by Discipline Guide: University of Calgary developed by Libraries and Cultural Resources staff supports faculty in locating quality open educational resources in their subject area by providing curated lists of OER organized according to the faculties, departments, and subjects at UCalgary. The Open Educational Resources within this guide have been evaluated by faculty, librarians, and other relevant parties prior to inclusion. The lists of OER in each discipline are not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to provide a sample of the key resources available. This guide will be updated periodically as new resources are identified, evaluated, and adopted.
