Chapter 9: Newcomer Family Settlement in Canada

Conclusion

In this chapter, we explored the important roles of settlement workers in helping immigrant and refugee families as they adapt to life in Canada. Settlement workers connect families with community resources, help newcomers access language and retraining programs, provide guidance on the Canadian legal system, offer financial advice, provide support to facilitate the reunification of families, and support older immigrants with social integration. They play an important role in helping newcomers overcome challenges and successfully establish themselves in Canada. Settlement workers build Canada’s diverse society by incorporating co-operation, inclusion, and support into their assistance to newcomer families.
