Learning Objectives

By the end of this chapter, you should be able to

  1. Describe the eyes, ears, and special sense organs, and the hematologic, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, reproductive, and nervous systems
  2. Describe the common functions of each of the body systems
  3. Describe the key components and structures of each of the body systems
  4. Define the common combining forms and abbreviations for each body system
  5. Define the common pathologies and procedures that related to each of the body systems

Chapter Overview

This chapter is a continuation of the overview of the body’s organization and related concepts. We will be learning the terms associated with the eyes, ears, and special sense organs, as well as the hematologic, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, reproductive, and nervous systems. It will give you a chance to use and apply the skills and knowledge you have learned about medical terminology so far. Discussion will focus on the levels of organization within the body and give a basic overview of each of the body systems, which will give you the knowledge required to understand the next chapters of this text.
