8 Interview with Tamara

Background

Tamara’s story is a little different, as she immigrated to Canada with her parents as a young child in 1997. She was born in a refugee camp in Sweden after her parents fled from the former Yugoslavia. Her mother is of Serbian descent, so her father feared persecution if they stayed. Even though Tamara has spent most of her life in Canada, she came to this country as a refugee with her parents, and that is the foundation of who she is today. It has shaped her beliefs and values, and she is extremely proud of her story and heritage.
