Background

In October 2017, Ama immigrated to Canada, leaving her children behind and facing the challenges of migration while pregnant, but she courageously navigated the process and built a new life here in Edmonton, Alberta. Determined to contribute meaningfully to her new community, Ama enrolled at NorQuest College in 2020 to start a new educational journey. She began with English language training and quickly progressed to the Social Work program, which she finished in June 2025. In October 2022, Ama was appointed as Students’ Council Representative and later as a student Board of Governors member of NorQuest College in November 2023 (to 2025), where she brings her voice, leadership, and lived experience to help shape inclusive policies and practices. Her strong interpersonal, team management, and community-building skills make her a valued leader within and beyond the college environment. She is also an attentive mother to three children.
