14. Library Chat
You head over to a library computer terminal and log on to the library website. A chat window pops up and you type in your question:
“Hello! I’m trying to find a study space in the TFDL.”
A few seconds later you get a response.
“Hello and you’ve come to the right place!” a person on the other end replies. “I’m a librarian here at the TFDL and we can give you a hand! We have a lot of options for studying. Floors 1-3 are a little louder, and are great for group work. Floors 4-6 are quiet study spaces, so those would be better for your solo studying. We have tables and desks on all floors that are first come first served. You can see how busy the floors are and how many spaces are available on our library home page, or on the screens throughout the TFDL lobby.”
You look over, and see the screens you hadn’t noticed before. “Oh, that’s great! That way I don’t have to trek all the way up just to find no empty spaces!”
“Exactly,” replies the chat librarian. “We also have some study rooms that you can book ahead of time. Here’s the link. And there are some open computer terminals on every floor you can use to make the booking if you don’t have your own device. Here’s a link to the booking site: www.library.ucalgary.ca/bookings [opens link in new tab]”
You decide to book a study space. You thank the librarian for their time and shut the chat window and head to the booking page.
