On this page, you will read an article titled “The Job Interview” (see the bottom of this page). You will do the following:
- Review vocabulary.
- Learn about text features.
- Read and answer questions.

The Job Interview
Great news!
An employer wants to talk to you.
The employer wants to interview you.
Write down the time, date, and address of your meeting.
Now you must get ready for the interview.
Three Types of Interviews
The three types of interviews are phone, one-on-one, and panel.
1. Phone interview
A phone interview can happen at any time.
- Maybe you live far away from the company.
- Maybe they want to talk when you call about a job posting.
- Maybe they want to talk the same day.
2. One-on-one interview
- One person interviews you. This is usually the manager.
3. Panel interview
- More than one person interviews you.
Before the Interview
- Do your homework!

- Find information about the company.
- Ask people: What do you know about the company?
- Use the internet at a local library. Ask for help.

- Learn about body language. How should you move in an interview?
- Learn about interview questions.
- Practise answering interview questions.
- Think about questions you can ask the employer.
- Plan your time. You do not want to be late for an interview. How are you going to get to the interview?

- By bus: Know the bus number, route, and times.
- By car: Look at a map and practise driving to the meeting.
