The interview is a very important step in Canada. You need to do an interview to get a job. The interview is usually a formal conversation. In this module, you will study what to do before, during, and after an interview.

Employers want to know more about you in an interview. For all jobs, you need to be punctual, show initiative, be reliable and flexible. You need to ask questions at the right time. Questions are really important for safety.

Employers look at your application form and/or resumé. Do they like your documents? If they do, they will call you for an interview.

Employers want to know, are you good or not good for their company? New employees must “fit” their company. You can learn new skills, but you can’t learn “fit.”

The interview is usually a formal activity. It is important to know, what do I do before, during, and after an interview? The skills you will learn in this module will also be good for work and your life. They are transferable skills.

C. Getting Ready for Work and Life in Canada

The following are three basic ways to get ready for work and life in Canada. Are you working on these things?

1. Increase language level. This is important for finding a job. This is important for getting a better job.

“Newcomers can advance in my company. They need job training.” – Employer

2. Be ready to learn. Things change. We need to learn new things so we can understand the changes.

“Don’t give up. The language may be a problem, but you can learn. With hard work and interest, you can do anything.” – Student

3. Learn about Canadian culture and the cultures of the people around you. Your classmates and the people you work with might have different cultures. It is important to understand people.

“Newcomers need confidence. They also need the courage to welcome a new culture and to learn new things. Then they will be successful.” – Service Provider
