OEA’s Pressbooks service now features a new Accessibility Author Assist Tool to support authors and institutional representatives in creating accessible open educational resources.

Open Education Community Highlights

As part of Alberta Budget 2026, the Government of Alberta is investing $3 million over the next three years to support the growth of open educational resources (OER) aimed at reducing textbook costs, improving affordability for students, and building capacity across the province.
The Alberta OE & OER Advocacy Group is supporting a project on “Student Voices: Sharing the Real Cost of Textbooks” to hear and learn directly from students on their experiences through short form video, audio recordings, and written testimonials.
Pressbooks Around the World: Collaboration Across Borders webinar highlights the OER publication Digital Resilience of ePortfolios During and Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons for the Future edited by Mpho-Entle Puleng Modise and Norman Vaughan coming from Mount Royal University. With 85 contributors from across six continents, the editors share reflections and practices for managing and creating a large international peer reviewed project. Now an OE Global Awards shortlist finalist too.
Open Education Talks, a collaborative lightning talk and poster conference organized by British Columbia and Alberta post-secondary institutions, is a OE Global Awards shortlist finalist under the ‘Open Practices’ category. The final results will be live streamed on September 2 at 11:00 am MT.
