Chapter Overview

This chapter introduces you to the role and responsibilities of a medical device reprocessing technician (MDRT) and the function and organization of the key areas of a Medical Device Reprocessing Area (MDRA). There is an abundant amount of information, knowledge, and skills necessary for working within the MDRA as an MDRT; however, this chapter is an introduction to the role and places of employment. Reprocessing technicians can come from many different backgrounds and work in varying locations such as clinics, dental offices, specialty offices, and the hospital setting. Important concepts such as one-way workflow will be highlighted, as well as the common areas in the MDRA and the training needed to be an MDRT.
