Chapter 1. Start Here Micro-Learning: Equitable Pathways (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) in Research
Micro-learning resources are short, self-paced experiences for busy researchers, trainees, staff, and community partners—offering practical entry points into IDEA-informed research. They build shared language and baseline understanding by breaking complex topics into clear, digestible segments (e.g., brief readings, prompts, checklists, short videos, reflective questions, and “try-it-now” activities). Focused on core concepts and common scenarios, they support day-to-day application and help participants arrive prepared for workshops, panels, and collaborative conversations. Designed to be revisited over time, they can be used individually or in teams and paired with live offerings to strengthen consistent, equity-advancing practice.
This micro-learning is organized into two sections. Section one will introduce key terms and concepts for meaningful work on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in research at OCEC. Many of these concepts will be referenced during workshops and sessions. If you are already familiar with some or all of this language, reviewing this content may reinforce your current knowledge and offer connections to concrete IDEA practices that you can bring to enrich our collaborative learning experience.
Section two guides you through a hands-on experience using the EDI Canvas Tool to apply some concepts to your research practice.
This micro-learning takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
