Chapter 2. Expert Panel: Equitable Pathways and GenAI (Micro-learning)
Micro-learning resources are short, self-paced experiences for busy researchers, trainees, staff, and community partners—offering practical entry points into IDEA-informed research. They build shared language and baseline understanding by breaking complex topics into clear, digestible segments (e.g., brief readings, prompts, checklists, short videos, reflective questions, and “try-it-now” activities). Focused on core concepts and common scenarios, they support day-to-day application and help participants arrive prepared for workshops, panels, and collaborative conversations. Designed to be revisited over time, they can be used individually or in teams and paired with live offerings to strengthen consistent, equity-advancing practice.

This open-access micro-learning resource invites you into that conversation through the proceedings of the Equitable Pathways & GenAI Expert Panel, hosted by the Equitable Pathways Accelerator at One Child Every Child and chaired by Dr. Malinda Smith, Professor & Associate Vice-President Research-EDI. Bringing together multidisciplinary perspectives, the panel explored why inclusive research excellence requires an IDEA lens—Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility—in the design, use, and governance of AI.
Built from the panel discussion itself, this resource offers an accessible and engaging way to revisit the conversation and reflect on its relevance for research design and practice. It is designed for anyone interested in the intersections of AI, equity, ethics, and innovation, whether you are encountering these questions for the first time or looking to deepen your thinking . At the end, you will also find an interactive Practice Compass that brings these ideas together and helps you think through how they might inform your own decisions and actions.
The micro-learning is organized into three parts. The first invites you to settle into the full panel conversation and hear directly from the experts themselves. It is a little longer than a typical podcast episode, but good conversations have a way of carrying you along. You can listen directly in your browser or download the recording to your phone, making it easy to take with you while commuting, walking, or moving between places.
The second part draws out key ideas and themes that emerged from the discussion, highlighting important questions, tensions, and possibilities raised by the panel. The third section introduces the Practice Compass, followed by a short feedback survey.
Rather than offering simple answers, this resource creates space to pause, listen, and reflect on what responsible and inclusive innovation might require in a rapidly changing landscape. In doing so, it supports a broader conversation about how research excellence can be strengthened through more thoughtful, equitable, and accountable approaches to emerging technologies.
