Chapter 3: Reading Group Learnings

About the Reading Group (Season 1)

From November 2025 to May 2026, the Reading Group explored Working Together: Practicing the Science of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by Mikki Hebl and Eden King (Oxford University Press). The book examines diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace—from foundational concepts and the psychology of bias to discrimination, allyship, organizational change, recruitment, selection, and retention.

Each month, participants read two chapters and then met to discuss them together. The sessions were designed as conversations rather than lectures or formal book reviews. The readings provided a shared starting point for reflecting on how the research and ideas in the book connect with workplaces, research environments, institutions, and everyday experiences.

Meetings took place in online and hybrid formats and brought together participants from different disciplines, roles, and backgrounds. The aim was to create space for questions, different perspectives, and thoughtful reflection on what diversity, equity, and inclusion can look like in practice.
