8. Poster presentation at the Augustana Student Academic Conference
All teams will present their poster at the Augustana Student Academic Conference (SAC). Specific information about when to set-up and the schedule will be posted on the class website prior to SAC.
Use the following guidelines and tips for your roles as presenter and audience member.
As a presenter:
- Be sure to know more about the topic than what is on the poster and do not read the poster to the audience – use text as a prompt
- Talk loudly and slowly, do not mumble. Always face the audience and make eye contact.
- Do not rush! Avoid rushing by selecting what to include in your presentation.
- Show enthusiasm
- PRACTICE! Since you are presenting as a team, it is important to not repeat each other’s information
- All students are required to participate in the presentation.
- At the end of your presentation be sure to state your “take home message”
- When asked questions, answer as clearly and briefly as possible. Take time to reflect on the question before answering. If you do not understand what is being asked, make sure you ask for clarification. If you are unsure of the answer, say so and move on (note: practice forming hypotheses in your answers when you are uncertain – this is a great skill to have in presentations).
As an audience member:
- Be quiet and attentive – do not be talking, texting, etc. while others are presenting!
- Ask clear questions.
- Ask questions in a respectful manner.
- Ask questions that will deepen your understanding of the experiments and the organism.
