5. Lab Procedure – Session 2

Review and perform experiments 

In this lab session you will conduct the experiments your team designed. Before you begin, carefully review your marked study design, paying attention to the feedback you have been given, and ensure that the experiments meet the following criteria:

• test a hypothesis that can be completed within the lab period
• the required supplies are available
• will not harm the organism in any way

If you have any questions or concerns, speak with your lab instructor before you attempt the experiments. Make sure you have an appropriate data table on hand to record your observations and any data you collect. Some tips:

• Allow study organisms acclimation time before beginning the experiment.
• As a team, decides who will carry out each part of the experiment (e.g., track time lapsed, record data, manipulate variables, etc.).
• Ensure you are collecting both qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., observations).
• Take pictures of your study organism and experimental set-up. These will be useful for your poster
