Entrepreneurial Responsible Growth and Scalability Assessment

SDG-Supported Replication & Franchisability Framework

Purpose

This template is designed to help you evaluate whether your venture should scale, and if so, how it can scale responsibly.

Unlike traditional growth frameworks that emphasize expansion as a goal, this approach recognizes that:

  • not all ventures need to scale
  • not all growth is beneficial
  • poorly designed scaling can weaken impact

This template helps you:

  • evaluate replication and franchisability
  • identify risks to sustainability and mission
  • design growth strategies that preserve integrity

This template does NOT determine whether your venture must grow.
It helps you understand whether growth is appropriate, responsible, and sustainable.

Instructions

✔ Be honest about readiness for scaling
✔ Identify risks—not just opportunities
✔ Reflect on both financial and impact implications
✔ Prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term expansion

🔹 Responsible Growth & Scalability Template (SDG-Supported)

Entrepreneurship • Replication & Franchising • Sustainability Integrity Checklist

This template evaluates whether growth is appropriate and responsible—not whether growth is required.

🔹 1. Core Venture & Sustainability Anchor

  • Business idea summary
  • Primary SDG or sustainability principle
  • Non-negotiable sustainability standards
  • What must remain consistent during growth

🔹 2. Growth Strategy Choice

  • Replication (company-owned expansion)
  • Franchising or licensing
  • Partnership-based growth

Why is scaling necessary right now?

🔹 3. Mission Drift Risk Check

  • Where could commercialization weaken impact?
  • What behaviours must be prevented?
  • What decisions would violate sustainability values?

🔹 4. Replication Readiness

  • Are processes standardized?
  • Is training material documented?
  • How will quality be monitored across locations?

🔹 5. Franchising Governance

  • Partner or franchisee selection criteria
  • Sustainability clauses in agreements
  • Audit or monitoring mechanisms

🔹 6. Commercial Growth Logic

  • Revenue generated from scaling (royalties, fees, expansion sales)
  • Cost of maintaining sustainability standards
  • Financial sustainability of expansion

🔹 7. Stakeholder & Community Impact

  • Who benefits when the business grows?
  • Possible negative social or environmental effects
  • How risks to community or workforce will be mitigated

🔹 8. SDG Integrity Gatekeeper

  • What sustainability metrics will be monitored?
  • How often will reporting happen?
  • Who is responsible for impact verification?

🔹 9. Responsible Scaling Verdict (Not a Judgment)

  • Scale now with safeguards
  • Pilot growth first
  • Not ready for expansion
