Conclusion
This chapter provided a basic overview of some of the impacts of colonialism and the effect it has had on Indigenous Peoples and on the Global South. The intent of this chapter was to provoke critical thinking on the subject, reflect on one’s own experience in the global and local context, and showcase how history shapes beliefs, attitudes, culture, and worldviews, and our perception of those from different cultural backgrounds. The goal is also to provide the learner with a greater appreciation for Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and an understanding of ways of knowing and being from diverse cultural perspectives. As with other chapters in this book, the skills of reflection, self-awareness, and critical thinking will be put to great use when learning about and analyzing this topic.
