Foliose, umbilicate chlorolichen. Thalli composed of rounded or contorted lobes 6-10 cm in diameter, often forming extensive colonies. Upper cortex brown to gray to more rarely blackened, typically with ridges or wrinkles particularly centrally but occasionally smooth. Often pruinose at least centrally, close to the umbo. Lower cortex gray, tan to brown, smooth, with extensive, simple to sparsely branched rhizines. Rhizines brown to pinkish tan, darkening where exposed. Apothecia common, sessile to substipitate, scattered over the surface; with a central button that may be obscured or lacking in some; check multiple apothecia. |
