| Field Characters | Round, irregular lobes 5-10 cm in diameter, thin and fragile. Often forming large colonies of overlapping thalli. Upper and lower cortices dark brown to black, lower surface smooth to irregularly pitted. Lacking rhizines. Isida present, laminal on the upper cortex, granular to occasionally minutely squamulose. Soredia lacking. Apothecia unknown. |

| Ecology | Known largely from the shield region of Alberta, with a single collection from Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains region (Consortium of Lichen Herbaria 2024). Saxicolous on noncalcareous rock. |
