Similar species
Ramalina “neopacifica” ined.: known from wet, coastal forests, this species it not confirmed for Alberta. It is longer and wider than R. dilacerata (14 mm on average to 41 mm tall x 28 mm on average to 45 mm wide, Hampton-Miller 2012) and appears ‘leggier’. Molecular work is required to verify its presence.

Ramalina sinensis: larger thalli, with solid, flattened branched with conspicuous pseudocyphellae.

Ecology Common epiphyte on shrubs and trees across the boreal, foothills, and shield natural regions of Alberta. Sparse in the parkland.
Chemistry Cortex K-, KC+ yellow, PD-, UV- (usnic acid), medulla UV- or UV+ dull white (divaricatic acid).
