| Field Characters | Medium to large leafy chlorolichen. Thalli loosely appressed to slightly ascending, with rounded lobes 3-10 mm across forming up-to-palm-sized thalli. Upper cortex brown to bluish-grey, wrinkled to slightly reticulate. The lobe tips vary from epruinose to sparsely pruinose. Laminal pseudocyphellae abundant, developing into pale, granular, aggregated soredia, contrasting with the cortex. Lower cortex black centrally, brown marginally, with short, simple rhizines that resemble a “buzz cut”. Apothecia not observed in Alberta. |

Redeterminations of PMAE collections found collections of this species under Hypogymnia austerodes (inflated lobes) and Parmelia saxatilis (smaller, angular lobes with shiny isidia). |
