Field Characters Fruticose, club-like chlorolichen. Primary squamules small, persisent or evanescent. Podetia greenish-grey to brown, unbranched, bearing well-developed, closed cups. Cups with short proliferations, pycnidia, and bulbous apothecia on short marginal projections. Lacking soredia, cortex intact and smooth, varying in the presence of secondary squamules.
Similar species
Cladonia ecmocyna: more greyish than browned, pruinose podetial tips, K+ yellow (atranorin)
Ecology One of Alberta’s most common lichens, occurs in most forested sites, occasional in parkland and grassland ecosystems.
Chemistry PD+ orange, K- or K+ dingy brown, KC-,  UV- (fumarprotocetraric acid)
