Field Characters Medium sized bipartite cyanolichen. Photobiont Nostoc, non-stratified. Thalli composed of thin, rounded lobes generally greater than 3 mm diameter, olive black to brown, appressed to the substrate but sparsely attached. Lacking cellular cortices. Lobes pustulate or blistered throughout, with isidia concentrated on pustule surface. No tomentum or soredia. Lower surface smooth, black. Apothecia rare.
Similar species & genera
Collema (Lathagrium) fuscovirens: pustules not as abundant or defined, thallus thicker and often smaller.
Ecology Occasional on bark or on rock in the mountains, foothills and boreal regions in Alberta. Most common in mature to old-growth white spruce, mixedwood and deciduous stands.
Chemistry No substances detectable by spot tests or TLC.
